I work in a university testing center, and we're installing 8 cameras in one of our testing rooms so that we can monitor examinees. We have a PC in our surveillance room that will record the video. My first question is this: does that PC need to be 100% dedicated to recording surveillance or can it be used by our testing proctors to browse the internet or work on homework? Second, will my co-worker and I be able to monitor the cameras from our individual PC's or will they only be viewable from the main PC?
Thanks for your help
Justin
Hi Jmrobill,
it is highly recommended that you use a dedicated PC for your video security system. There are few reasons, why you would want it to be a dedicated PC. The speed is the number one issue, if your computer just meets the recommended requirements than your computer will run slow anytime you open additional applications. Another reason, which might not pertains to your case is that the video security system should always be secure and not open to users to play around with.
You and your co-worker will be able to log into this system for your individual PC's to view the cameras, either by using the client viewing software, which is included or by using internet explorer. The client viewing software gives you more functionality, so I would recommend using it. We have tested.
