I was curious as to what the average length of recording is for this unit (250g HDD) on each of the recording qualities (best, normal, basic) for continuous recording with the 4 color outdoor IR cameras included in the economy kit.
Also, when setting up the motion zones is the red squares the sections that will not cause the event?

if you set the 4channel 250GB DVR included with this system

9 days at best quality
15 days at normal quality
25 days at basic quality
This DVR also includes the motion zones that you described, which can be activated or deactivated. There are multiple levels of sensitivity that can be adjusted. The one that you described would be the general sensitivity. There is also space sensitivity, which is used to when you don't want an animal to trigger the motion recording. Time sensitivity that could prevent rain, snow or other fast moving objects from triggering the motion recording.
