I would like to install an 8-9 camera system at my home location. I am interested in day/night (up to zero lux), weatherproof system. I have a nice LCD computer monitor that I would like to use for monitoring. I am interested in a DVR (that hooks up to my computer) that can be viewed remotely from internet. Additionally, I would like to install a dome camera at both front and back entrances (I think I need this because I would like to view in detail persons coming and going). I would also like to install cameras at 25-100 feet at multiple locations. How should I approach this project? Any recommendations? I have even considered purchasing the DVR and perhaps 3-4 cameras initially…Thanks!

Also, when setting up the motion zones is the red squares the sections that will not cause the event?

I have a problem with vandals creating disturbances in front of my home. Not destroying property, but purposly creating noisy disturbances.

I think I need about two surveillance cameras. One over the front door, which I was thinking could just be a simple bullet camera so I can see who is at the door.

And one over the front of the house, which I was hoping to be able to see what cars pass by the house, what activity is going on in front of the house, and maybe even zoom in on license plates and peoples faces.

I'm thinking I need, PTZ, color, night vision, and vandal proof features for the over the house camera.

Anybody have recomendations of specific cameras featured on this site that might be good for me?

Hi,
I had just buy a netpromax DVR card (http://www.surveillance-video.com/fa8chdvrcawi1.html). when I was reading the specifications I spotted a line which says that this card would work on a Intel 845 - 865 MotherBoard Only.
The problem is that I am about to buy the other hardware for the PC. However I am confused about hardware compatibility speccially which mother would work.

I am planning to buy a pentium 4 631 3.0, 1 Gb DDR2 553/667mhz. An ATI VGA perhaps 1050X.

If anyone had been over this situation I would appreciate feedback, speccially regarding to hardware compatibility. (if the pieces I selected would work and suggest a motherboard which is known to work)

I already emailed netpromax, because in their website they do not have any specification of this card but I receive no reply yet.

Thanks

Previously purchased from suv-vid Everfocus digital recorder system and was very happy with it up until residence was sold and it went with the sale. Attempting now to put together a system that can be moved about a gated community with no one set application. I am leaning toward Everfocus due to past experience and satisfaction. Everfocus EDR410H along with Led Light camera DCL-450, varifocal B/W camera cvc-1705 and last but not least a wireless weatherproof B/W camera FW-WRA with FW-WRC receiver option. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Frank

Hi All:

I am about to order a DVR from surveillance-video.com and I need clarification on one thing:

I want the highest quality recordings possible and a I need an 8 channel DVR.

Is 30 fps (per camera) the highest rate out there? So if an 8 channel DVR boasts 240 fps I gather that's 240 / 8 = 30 fps per camera.

Does this mean that a 16 channel DVR that boasts 480 fps (480 / 16 = 30 fps per camera) would render 60 fps per camera if only 8 of the 16 inputs were used? If so, would the picture quality be any better than 30 fps?

Should I also be considering resolution (eg: 720 x 420)?

Thanks.

So i am using a surveillance program and card (geovision 2004) for medical studies to keep data of many things going on, only one input is a camera. all other inputs work and save fine. When i am trying to use the camera, it displays fine and while its recording it appears to be fine. When i then go to look at the Video Log (whats been saved) all the videos from the camera have about 1/4 of the screen filled with a green box that forces the rest of the acquired image down out of frame. There also seems to be a little bit of ghosting over it aswell. I am wondering what this may be, ive updated my video drivers, my direct X version and everything the FAQs say to try. Im at a loss at the moment and not a fan of the green box, any help would be great, thanks!

Hi All,

I'm in the process of setting up surveillance system in my house. Currently I'm finishing my basement and ran siamese cable from the 2 floors upstairs and basement rooms to a central location under the basement stairs. I'm planning to install mini pinhole board cameras, housed inside a motion detector casing and had a few questions.

1. Will either 520 TVL color (KPC-HD38CSP3) or 600 TVL BW (KPC-S20P4HEX) cameras provide good resolution and angle of view if I need to zoom in using DVR's software zoom?

2. Since both cameras above come with RCA/BNC connectors, will I be able to easily connect those to my existing cables in the walls if I add a crimp-on BNC connector and a coupler?

3. Does anyone know where I can get inexpensive motion detector (PIR) cases to house the cameras above?

Thanks,
Gennady

I am running the 4CVIR250 system with the 250 GB CP Cam and 4 350 BC cameras. The system is great and I would recommend it to anyone.

My questions:

1. I am trying to fine tune the motion detections settings. Is there a better description of LS, TS, RE, etc thats in the cp cam manual? I have made a few setting changes but not sure if its making that much difference. Around sunrise and sunset I get false recordings from I think light changes. I dont want to lose sensitivity on someone walking by but also dont want to look at recordings every three to four minutes of nothing. I have blocked out all plants that move in the wind which helped a lot.

2. This mornings outside tempuratures got down to to 35 degrees. Two of the 350 BC's on the windy side of the house had a VLOSS around 3-4 am. Is this common if its real cold???

There is something in the software called a webserver and it points to the directory "C:\DICO\wwwroot" which has an index file and is obviously what I need to use but I have no idea what to do to connect to this.

Tried contacting CTI but there support is non-existent and there website has not been updated in a long, long time.

Hi folks! I'm completely new to this type of stuff and could use a little help please.

I'm considering setting up a system using a PTZ type cameras. Also I'd like to operate this through my PC. What I'm having trouble deciphering is the RS485 coms. Most of the cameras I look at use this for the ptz operations. When I look at the various DVR cards they'll mention they support ptz but never mention the rs485.

So is this just a standard feature in these cards or do I need to look specifically for one that says it supports rs485? Or do I simply have to buy one of the joystick type controllers regardless.

If there are links to some decent basic tutorials I'd appreciate those as well.

Thanks for any help!
